Edame

Have you ever tried Edame?
"The soybean is the most widely grown and utilized legume in the world, with the U.S. being responsible for more than 50% of the world's production of this important food. Soy is one the most widely researched, health-promoting foods around. Soybeans' key benefits are related to their excellent protein content, their high levels of essential fatty acids, numerous vitamins and minerals, their isoflavones, and their fiber. "

Edame are usually purchased in the pod and you shell them. We love them and I prepare them 2 ways. First is to make a marinade out of Liquid Aminos, Balsamic Vinegar, Garlic, Red Wine,Olive Oil, Onion Powder, Spike and let them soak; then release the beans into our mouths while we enjoy the marinade on the pod. Or, I use just the beans in the marinade. Either way they are delicious. For the past year I've purchased the Edame in the pods, 12 oz for $1.29 at our local Discount Grocery Outlet. I thought it was a good bargain.............until I was at Winco in Boise, ID last week and found them ALL SHELLED in a 16 oz bag for $1.66!!! I bought 6 bags and gave one away to a friend. I now eat them more frequently because they are all shelled and so inexpensive. What a wonderful healthy source of protein.

Here is a new recipe for Edame Pate I found, haven't tried it yet but let me know if you do. http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/11256?section=164
